An Awana club night is filled with fun, friendships, Scripture memory, and Bible teaching that helps kids know, love, and serve Jesus for a lifetime!
What is Awana?
Awana is a Bible-based, Christ-centered program for children. It is an international Bible centered club whose primary goal is to teach boys and girls the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. Awana includes scripture memory, Biblical principles, games, activities, songs, uniforms, badges and awards. It is a great honor to serve God in this way and to lead children to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
The word AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed and comes from the Bible verse II Timothy 2:15: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

What Happens At Awana?
Large Group Time
Kids gather together with their club for worship, announcements, and focused Bible teaching. Awana clubs will end the night at Closing Ceremony for weekly awards. This is a great opportunity for kids to get to know each other while learning Biblical truths.
Small Group Time
Relationships and belonging begin in small groups. During this time, consistent small group leaders disciple kids weekly as they dig into Scripture and learn how to apply it to their lives. This is also when kids will have opportunities to recite sections to listeners. It is strongly recommended that parents help children to memorize at home during the week. Small group time is meant to connect Scripture with the child’s heart. While small group leaders are happy to encourage and help kids in their memory work, this is not their primary focus or responsibility. Small groups are a special time allowing kids to discuss Bible lessons, ask and answer important questions, pray together, and celebrate each other’s progress!
Game Time
Each week, clubs will enjoy age-appropriate Awana games on CBC’s Awana Floor. This session is just pure fun, while encouraging team-building and relationship as teams work together to win.

The official Awana program is from 6:15-7:45 p.m. Doors open at 6:10 p.m. for check-in and pickup time is from 7:45-8 p.m.
Who will be working with the kids? All volunteers will be from the CBC church family or approved by CBC pastoral leadership, background-checked, and trained in Community Kids policies. They are excited to work with the kids! Additionally, Safety team members will be onsite overseeing our church campus.
How will dropoff/pickup work? Our Awana club will utilize the same check-in process used during Sunday ministry time. Parents will check in kids via our check-in kiosks, print and secure kid name/allergy labels to their child, and retain the parent receipt sticker to show at pickup time. Upon registration, parents will be asked to list all approved persons allowed to pickup and drop off their child(ren). If there are different people picking up and dropping off kids, a picture of the sticker will work. Anyone with a lost sticker will be asked to show their driver’s license to confirm that person is on the approved pickup list. Thank you for understanding the importance of our child safety measures.
Volunteers will offer kids one individual, pre-packaged snack and 8 oz. water bottle. The snack choices will typically be chips, Cheez-Its, goldfish, etc. The specific snack for the week will be announced in the Awana weekly email and all snacks are nut-free. Families are more than welcome to pack an alternative snack or decline a snack. Parents will be informed in advance of any special events where different food will be offered. We ask that parents not drop-off kids with water bottles unless there is a medical need.
When will Awana take breaks? Typical school breaks and holiday weeks will be observed. Additionally, as CBC holds a family dinner and meeting on a quarterly basis, Awana will pause on those nights and Community Kids offer different programming. An Awana calendar is being developed and will be sent to parents and posted here once finalized.
Are uniforms and handbooks required to participate? Yes, CBC asks families to purchase kid uniforms at the start of the school-year for simplicity rather than take a semester-based approach or work through weekly club dues as some Awana clubs do. Both uniforms and handbooks are designed to help enhance the club experience – they provide a sense of belonging to the larger group and allow kids to display their achievements as they work through the program.
Awards provide a fun way to encourage kids to participate in Awana. Awards are earned in age-appropriate ways as kids complete handbook sections and complete other challenges. Parents are encouraged to stay engaged with their child’s progress and celebrate achievements as they occur!
As long as space is available, families are certainly welcome to join mid-year. Please contact communitykids@cbcspringhill.org if your family would be interested in joining mid-year to discuss program details.
Cubbies will focus on the AppleSeed Handbook, Sparks Kindergarteners on HangGlider, Sparks 1st graders on WingRunner, Sparks 2nd graders on SkyStormer, and T&T on Agents of Grace. Please see the registration page for guidance if your child didn’t complete last year’s book or you’re joining from another Awana club with a different book.
If purchased Awana materials have been used by your child, the church will not be able to return them for a refund and pass on that refund to you. If these materials are unused, refunds may occur according to current Awana refund policies. Please note that if a child misses three consecutive Awana meetings without communication from families, the child may be removed from the roster to allow for space for another child to join.
